In mid-July, one of the days, as strolling about near the cliffy coast in this part of the country, a massive population of red flowers caught my eyes, and it soon turned out to be Dianthus japonicus that Shimane RDB lists as a VU. It was of breathtaking beauty under a cloudless sky. Another day, I was looking for Mincacalia makineana in a forest at approximately 900m from sea level. On that way back down, I came across a rare orchid species that Ministry of the Environment designates as a CR; it is Gastrodia elata f. pallens, which I saw for the first time. Here are those, along with others.
