In late-June, I took a trip to a wetland close to the east end of Shimane, and on entering the wet corner, Symplocos coreana caught my eye, being in full bloom. S. coreana is one of the rarest and most beautiful orchid species, inhabiting this part of the world. A couple of days later, I had a joyful moment encountering three rare species on a low hillside; Geranium robertianum, Rhamnus yoshinoi, and Geranium robertianum, all of them occurring in calcareous earth. Incidentally, with Rhamnus yoshinoi, at the fork of a pair of long branches, there exists a sharp spine.

It's a shame not to be able to get close to it because it's in a swamp and a bit too far to reach it.
