The taikan, the coldest time of year, is officially over; now I'm feeling a virtual sign of spring on Lamium purpureum starting blooming in the countryside. Meanwhile, the typical single-petaled winter blossom, Camellia japonica, is in full flower, especially in a forest near the sea.
