Aconitum japonicum ssp. napiforme, a toxic perennial, inhabits forests in mountainous regions on the Japan Sea. Stems measure approximately one meter in height, and leaves cleave themselves into three; the leaflets, 5-15cm in length and width, also cleave themselves into shallow to mid-veins. Blue-purple flowers, each 3-4cm tall, form corymbs and bloom from the bottom up. Petioles are equipped with bent hairs, and pistils and stamens without hairs.
