Amitostigm gracilis, a
small orchid species that occurs on cliffy, damp rocks, is typically
found in moss carpets. A bit aslant, the stems grow to 5-15cm tall,
with a single leaf at the base, long-oblong or broad lanceolate in
shape, 3-8cm long and 1-2cm wide, the margins being entire, and the
basal parts somewhat embracing the stems. Approximately ten 3mm
across red-purple flowers appear on the stem tip and open facing the
same direction in the summertime. Bloom time: June-July. |
