Ammannia auriculata,
an annual herb reportedly found in North
America, has recently been observed growing wild in western Japan.
Stems rise 20-80cm, with wings on ridges. Leaves are of opposite
phyllotaxis, 2-8cm long, in the shape of a broad, linear leaf, with
bases somewhat jutting out in a hastate manner. Flowers with four
petals, red-purple in color, 1-5 in number, are set on the tips of
peduncles 3-10cm long; the pedicels measure 2-5mm in length. Bloom
time: August-October. |
