Ampelopsis glandulosa var. heterophylla f. citrulloides
is a perennial liana occurring in fields and mountains whose bases
lignify. Young stems have coarse hairs, with dichotomous tendrils at
nodes where they become opposite to leaves. Leaves are alternate,
6-12cm long, 5-9cm wide, pentagonal orbicular, deeply cut into 3-5
with lobes with pointed tips. The leaves are thick, with glossy
surfaces, coarse hairs on the backsides' veins, and coarse
serrations on the margins. Cymes appear oppositely with the leaves
and set many flowers. The flowers are about 3mm across, light green,
and five-petalled. Sap fruit is 6-8mm in diameter, spherical, and
matures in green-white, purple, and blue. Bloom time: July-August. |
