Ampelopsis glandulosa var. heterophylla f. citrulloides is a
perennial liana occurring in fields and mountains whose bases
lignify. Young stems have coarse hairs, with dichotomous tendrils at
the nodes, where they become opposite to the leaves. Leaves are
alternate, 6-12cm long and 5-9cm wide, pentagonal-lobed, and deeply
cut into 3-5 lobes with pointed tips. The leaves are thick, with
glossy surfaces, coarse hairs on the backsides' veins, and coarse
serrations on the margins. Cymes appear opposite the leaves and set
many flowers. The flowers are approximately 3mm across, light green,
and have five petals. Sap fruit is 6-8mm in diameter, spherical, and
matures in green-white, purple, and blue. Bloom time: July-August. |
