Apios fortunei is a
vine perennial that grows to 2m or more. Stems wind themselves the
other plants around to climb and, on the other side, make rhizomes
in the ground. Leaves are pinnate compounds with 3-5 leaflets of
4-9mm long and 2-6m wide, in an oval shape. Butterfly-shaped flowers
are light yellow-green, with broad vexilla, small alae with tips
tinging light purple, and carinae bending inside. Bloom time:
July-September. |
