| Aster tripolium
is a biennial herb growing in salt marshes close to seashores or
inland wetlands; leaves are thick, 6.5-10cm long, lanceolate in
shape, somewhat glossy, and embrace stems a bit. Leaves are linear
on the upper parts. Head flowers, many in number, are 2cm in
diameter; ray florets are light purple. The achene is flat and
narrow, oblong, measuring 2.5-3 mm long. However, as the flowering
period ends, it can extend to as much as 5 mm and become brownish.
