Buxus microphylla var. insularis / Chousenhimetsuge チョウセンヒメツゲ

Buxus microphylla var. insularis, an evergreen shrub or small tree, 0.3- 1 m in height, prefers to grow in limestone areas in hilly districts. Leaves are opposite, leathery, and glossy, oval to broad-oblong, 1-1.5 cm long. Inflorescences emerge from the branch-top axils, where many small yellow flowers bloom; female flowers are in the center, surrounded by males. Bloom time: March-April.
