Carex kobomugi, a perennial common in seashore sandy
soil, grows to 10-20cm in height, with stems that are obtusely
3-ridged, tough, and thick. Leaves are 4-6mm broad, linear, and the
margins are sandy. Stem tips emerge as ovate-to-long-oblong racemes
and set light yellow-green spikelets in them. Dioecious is rarely
monoecious; utricles measure approximately 1cm long, about the same
as scales. Stigmas are three in number. Bloom time: April-July.
