Chenopodium ambrosioides, an annual herb originating
in South America, may occur on roadsides or wastelands in urban
areas and grows to 0.6-1m in height, with a distinctive smell.
Leaves are alternate, 3-10 cm long, oblong, with coarse serrations
on the margins and numerous pale yellow glandular dots on the lower
surfaces. Branch tips produce numerous green flowers in a conical
arrangement. The spikes have leaf-like bracts and mingle together
bisexual and female flowers. Bloom time: July-November. |
