Chionographis japonica is a perennial herb found in
forests or along forest edges near streams in mountainous regions.
Radical leaves radially develop, growing into an oblanceolate shape,
8-14cm in length, with fine, wavy serrations on margins. Scapes
measure 15-40cm in height, with linear on-stem leaves. Stem tips
give 10-20cm-long racemes with many white flowers. The flowers bloom
from bottom to top in order, and the perianth lobes are six in
number, with the upper four being linear, the tops thick, and the
lower two significantly shorter. Bloom time: May-June. |
