Chloranthus japonicus
is a perennial herb inhabiting forests in mountainous regions,
growing in crowds with stems 20-30cm in height. Branches have
some purple nodes on them. Leaves, 4 in number, on stem tops are two
pairs of opposite phyllotaxis, looking as if in a whorl of four.
Before they open, racemes singly appear from stem tips. Flowers lack
perianths; a stamen trifucates, and anthers attach at the bases of
the other two filaments. Connectivums are white-thread-like. Bloom
time: April-May. |
