Cinnamomum japonicum,
an evergreen tree found in forests in hilly districts, grows up
to 20 meters tall and has a diameter of 50 centimeters. Leaves are
of alternate phyllotaxis; blades are 7-10cm long, 2-5cm wide, in the
shape of an oblong, with three prominent veins (inclusive midribs).
The two veins disappear before reaching the leaf margins. Small,
light yellow-green flowers form umbel-like inflorescences. Fruit
(drupes) mature in black-purple in October-November, about 1.5 cm
long, spherical to oblong. Bloom time: June. |
