Cinnamomum japonicum,
an evergreen tree found in forests in hilly districts, grows up to
20m with 50cm in diameter. Leaves are of alternate phyllotaxis;
blades are 7-10cm long, 2-5cm wide, in the shape of a long oblong,
with three prominent veins (inclusive midribs). The two veins
disappear before reaching leaf margins. Small, light yellow-green
flowers put themselves in umbel-like inflorescences. Fruit (drupes)
mature in black-purple in October-November, about 1.5cm-long,
spherical to oblong. Bloom time: June. |
