Cirsium japonicum var. okiense
is endemic to the Oki Islands off the coast of
the Shimane Peninsula. The involucral bracts of this variety have
sharper prickles compared to those of its elemental species,
extending like needles. Within the Oki Islands, this variety is
abundant, found on roadsides, in grasslands, rangelands, and other
areas. Bloom time: May-August.
