Coix lacryma-jobi,
a
perennial herb originating in tropical Asia, is reportedly
introduced in ancient times. It occurs in clusters on water's edges
and grows to 1-2m in height, with leaves about 50cm long and 1.5-4cm
wide with white mid-ribs. Leaf-sheaths on the upper parts bear
inflorescence branches, the tips of which set 0.8-1cm-long urceolate
bract sheaths. Bloom time: September-November. |
