Crocosmia x crocosmiiflora, reportedly
a hybrid of C. aurea and C. pottsii introduced from Europe long ago,
grows wild in this country; and propagates itself by extending
rhizomes sideways to form bulbs at the ends. Scapes grow to 50-80ch
in height, branch on upper parts, and set dark vermilion-red.
Flowers measure 2-3cm in diameter. Bloom time: June-August. |
