Crocosmia x crocosmiiflora,
reportedly a hybrid of C. aurea and C. pottsii
introduced from Europe long ago, grows wild in this country and
propagates itself by extending rhizomes sideways to form bulbs at
the ends. Scapes grow to 50-80 cm in height, branch on the upper
parts, and set dark vermilion-red. Flowers measure 2-3cm in
diameter. Bloom time: June-August. |
