Cyperus brevifolius var.
leiolepis, a perennial found in sunny, damp places, grows to
5-20cm, propagating by extending rhizomes long. Leaves are 2-3mm
broad and linear-shaped. Stem tips have 2-3 leaf-like bracts,
generally setting a single, occasionally 2-3, 0.7-1cm diameter
spherical inflorescences, which include gathering small green
spikelets. The spikelets are 2-3.5mm long, flat, narrowly lanceolate,
with four scales, the single top one setting florets. Bloom time:
