Daphniphyllum macropodum, an
evergreen tree, grows to as much as 10m tall and 30 cm in diameter
in evergreen broad-leaved forests. Leaves are alternate, gathering
together on branch ends. Blades measure 8-20cm long,3-7cm wide, in a
long elliptical to lanceolate shape, with tips shortly pointed,
bases cuneate, margins entire, lateral veins 10-19 pairs, leathery
texture, no hairs, glossy, and back surfaces tinging white. Petioles
are 3-6cm long, generally tinging red. Dioecious: Axils on previous
year's branches bear 4-12cm-long racemes, male flowers with no
petals nor sepals, and 6-12 stamens. The female flower's sepals are
small or missing. Bloom time: May-June. |
