Daphniphyllum macropodum var. humile, an evergreen shrub
that falls at the base and obliquely stands upward to 1-3m in
height, inhabits forests in hilly districts with heavy snowfalls;
the branches are persevering and flexible. Leaves are alternate;
blades measure 10-15cn long, 3-4cn wide, in the shape of a
long-oblong to oblanceolate, with entire margins and 2-4cm-long red
petioles. Leaf veins are 8-10 pairs, fewer than its original
species, Daphniphyllum macropodum. Dioecious: They bloom in racemes
that have emerged from axils on previous year's branches. Male
flowers lack both sepals and petals; females can have some sepals
but next to nothing. Bloom time: May-June. |
