Daphniphyllum
macropodum var. humile, a deciduous shrub that falls at the
base, grows obliquely upward to 1-3m in height, inhabits forests in
hilly districts with heavy snowfalls. Its branches are strong and
flexible. Leaves are alternate; blades measure 10-15cn long, 3-4cn
wide, in the shape of a long-oblong to oblanceolate, with entire
margins and 2-4cm-long red petioles. Leaf veins are 8-10 pairs,
fewer than its original species, Daphniphyllum macropodum.
Flowers are dioecious; they bloom in racemes that emerged from axils
on previous year's branches. Male flowers lack both sepals and
petals, and females can have some sepals but next to nothing. Bloom
time: May-June. |
