Diopsyros kaki, a deciduous tree with gray-brown bark,
grows as tall as 10 meters. Leaves are alternate; blades measure
7-15cm long, broadly oblong to oval-like oblong, with tips pointed,
margins entire, and short hairs on mid-ribs on upper surfaces and
all through the back surfaces. Dioecious: The current year's branch
tips set pale yellow flowers in May-June; some male flowers, some
5-10mm long, are bell-shaped. Corollas are cleft in four, and the
lobes bend backward. Sap fruit matures in yellow-red in
October-November. Bloom time: May-June. |
