Dopatrium junceum, an annual herb of 5-20cm in height,
grows in wetlands like paddies. Leaves with no petioles are of
opposite phyllotaxis, 1-2.5cm long, 3-5mm wide, narrowly long oblong
or lanceolate, with lips obtuse, and no serrations on margins. The
leaves are smaller as they go up. The axils set themselves in light
purple, with 4-5mm-long ligulate flowers, and the upper lips are
cleft in two and lower in three. The upper lips have two stamens,
and the lower lips have two staminodes. Calyxes cut themselves in
five. Capsules are 2.5-3mm in diameter and spherical. Lower part
axils generally generate cleistogamous flowers. Bloom time:
August-October. |
