Euonymus japonicus
is an evergreen shrub found in coastal forests
or edges, growing to 2-6m in height. Leaves, the phyllotaxis being
opposite or rarely alternate, are thick and oblong, 3-8cm long,
2-4cm in width, with shallow serrations on margins. Cymes emerge
from the leaf axils with 7 mm in diameter green-white or white-green
flowers, 7-15 in number, in June-July. The fruit matures red, and
the aperture is four, from November to January. Bloom time:
