Galium trachyspermum, a perennial herb borne on paths
between paddies or roadsides, grows to 20-50cm tall. Stems are
4-ridged and slender and occasionally lie down on the ground. Leaves
are in whorls with four, each 0.6-1.5cm in length, 3-6mm in width,
in the shape of an oval-long-oblong to oval, with tips short and
pointed, and white hairs on margins and backsides. Two leaves out of
the 4 are genuine, and the other 2 are leaf-like stipules -
generally a bit smaller than the actual leaves. Stem tips or axils
emerge inflorescences that set some light yellow-green flowers about
1mm across. Bloom time: May-June. |
