Geum japonicum / Daikonsou ダイコンソウ

Geum japonicum, a 40-80cm tall perennial, is found in mountains and fields, the whole having luxuriant soft hairs. The radical leaves are pinnate compounds, 10-20 cm long, with sharply serrated margins. The on-a-stem leaves are cleft into three lobes. The flowers are yellow, with many pistils and stamens, measuring 1.5-2 cm in diameter. The styles have joints where they twist; after the flowers, the styles extend, and then the upper portions of the joints drop out, becoming an achene. The mass is spherical, measuring approximately 1.5 cm in diameter. Bloom time: June-August
