Hosta longissima
is a perennial herb found in sunny wetlands,
with rhizomes that crawl sideways. Leaves erect or extend diagonally
upward and are the slimmest among plants in the Hosta genus in
Japan; the blades are 17-30 cm, 1.7-2cm wide, in the shape of a
linear-like oblanceolate, and the bases become wing-like to run
toward the petioles, with glossy surfaces. Flower stalks grow to
40-65cm and set 3-5 light purple flowers facing sideways. The
flowers are 3.5-4.5cm long, tubular-bell-shaped, with navicular
bracts. Bloom time: August-October. |
