Hylodesmus podocarpum subsp. oxyphyllum var.
japonicum,
a perennial herb of 0.6-1.2m tall, grows on grasslands, roadsides,
or forest edges in flatlands to mountain regions. Leaves comprise
three leaflets; the terminal ones measure 4-8cm long, 2.5-4cm wide,
ovate to long-oblong, and the others are somewhat smaller. Light red
and 3-4mm long, flowers are set in sparse, slender inflorescences.
Fruit (a loment) consists of two articles, 5-7mm long and
half-moon-shaped. Bloom time: July-September. |
