a perennial herb originating in Europe, grows wild in fields,
grasslands, roadsides, or vacant lots. Leaves, comprising radical
ones only, are variable in shape, ranging from non-cleft to
pinnately deep cleft. Flower stalks grow to 50cm or more in height
and branch in one to three upper parts. Flower heads are yellow and
3-4cm in diameter. Achenes are with dense upward prickles, and
pappuses are plumous. Bloom time: June-September.
