Ilex latifolia,
an evergreen tree 10-20cm tall with smooth gray-brown bark, inhabits
forests in mountainous regions. Leaves are alternate; their blades
measure 10-17cm long and 4-7cm wide, in an oblong shape, with
pointed tips, circular or obtuse bases, and sharp serrations along
the margins. They are also thick and leathery, and their leaves are
green, glossy, and have prominent veins. Dioecious: Small
green-yellow flowers set themselves on significantly short branches
born at the axils. Drupes mature in red in November. Bloom time.
