IIris sanguinea f.
albiflora, a white form of Iris sanguinea, is a
perennial that occurs in somewhat dry grasslands, characterized by
rhizomes with brown fiber systems around them. Leaves alternate in
two rows, 30-60cm in height and 0.5-1cm long, in the shape of a
sword-like leaf. Flower stalks stand in groups at the base, reaching
30-60cm tall, and are topped with 2-3 flowers. The flowers are
white, approximately 8cm across, with six perianth lobes; the outer
three are broad and oval-shaped, with yellow bases. The other three
of the inside are slender and erect. Bloom time: May-June. |
