Ixeris japonica is a
common perennial species in somewhat damp roadsides or paths between
paddies; slender white stems shallowly crawl underground, nodes
emerging leaves, from which new growths begin and spread around. The
leaves are 6-20cm long, 1.5-3cm wide, in an oblanceolate to
spatulate-oblong shape, and lower portions occasionally cleft
pinnately. Flower stalks grow to about 20cm tall and set two or
three 2.5-3cm-in-diameter yellow flower heads on tips. The
involucres measure 1.2cm in length. Bloom time: April-May. |
