Juglans
mandshurica var. sieboldiana, a deciduous tree that grows to
7-10m in height, occurs in damp places like riversides or
depressions. Leaves are of an imparipinnate compound lead, 40-60cm
long, with dense brown vellus- and glandular- hairs on petioles and
rhachises and 5-9 pairs of leaflets. The leaflets are 8-18cm long,
3-8cm wide, oblong, with few petioles, tips shortly pointed, bases
somewhat distortedly truncated, and fine serrations on margins.
These plants bloom simultaneously with the development of leaves.
Dioecious: Female inflorescences are erect on the current year's
branch tips, and male ones hang from the previous year's branch
axils. Bloom time: May-June. |
