Limnophila aromatica: An
annual that inhabits rice fields or wetlands with a shiso (herb)
flavor. Stems are tender and round and occasionally branch to grow
15-20cm in height, the basal parts crawling somewhat sideways.
Leaves are opposite, occasionally in whorls of three, 1.5-3cm long
and 3-7mm wide, soft, with no hairs and glandular spots on back
surfaces. Flowers set themselves on the upper part's axils, with
7-15mm-long peduncles and small bractlets. Calyxes, 5-7cm long, cut
themselves halfway in five; the segments are lanceolate. Corollas
are about 1cm long; stamens are 4, and two are short. Bloom time:
September-October. |
