Melampyrum laxum var. nikkoense, a
hemiparasitic annual plant, occurs on deep mountain edges or
grasslands, the stem growing to 20-50cm in height. Leaves are narrow
ovate or long oblong-like lanceolate, 2.5-6cm long, 0.6-2cm wide,
with 5-10mm long petioles. Every axil on the upper parts sets single
flowers or 4-5cm long inflorescences on the stem tips put the
flowers; corollas are red-purple with yellow spots faux on both
sides. Bracts have no serrations. Bloom time: August-September. |
