Melampyrum setaceum is
an annual herb found in sunny grasslands or hill forest edges;
slender stems are 25-50cm in height, with narrow leaves in opposite
arrangement. The leaves, especially on the upper portions and the
leafy bracts beneath the flowers, are equipped with long
prickle-like serrations on the margins. Flowers, labiate, are dark
red-purple. This species is hemiparasitic, as with all the other
species in the genus. Bloom time: August-October. |
