Michelia compressa: An
evergreen tree that grows as tall as 15m in coastal forests in warm
districts. Leaves are of alternate phyllotaxis; blades measure
5-12cm long, 2-4cm wide, oblong-shaped, with entire margins, dark
green and glossy surfaces, back surfaces tinge white, and 2-3cm long
petioles with hairs. Single fragrant, about 3cm-in-diameter flowers
set themselves at axils; perianth lobes are generally twelve and all
petaloid. Fruit comprises multiple follicles - matures in
September-October. Bloom time: February-April. |
