Orobanche minor, a naturalized annual herb of 15-40cm in height,
originating in Europe or Africa, is parasitic on plants in the
Fabaceae like Trifolium repens. The whole plant is light
yellow-brown, with dense glandular hairs throughout, and stems that
have degenerated into sparse, leaf-like scales. Flowers are
delicate, yellow-brown, 1.2-1.5cm long, attaching at the bases of
the rankings; upper lips are shallowly split into two, and the lower
lips into three, with irregular notches. The sepals' tips extend
long in a tail-like manner. Bloom time: May-June. |
