Pennisetum alopecuroides / Chikarashiba チカラシバ

 

Pennisetum alopecuroides is a perennial that reaches a height of 50-80cm, commonly found in sunny grasslands, where its stems form numerous stocks in clusters. Leaves gather at the bases, 30-70cm long, 4-7mm wide, linear, stiff, and with surfaces that feel sandy. Leaf sheaths are flat, with long hairs at the tips. Inflorescences are 10-20cm long and 2cm wide, cylindrical, with many spikelets with dark purple bristles at the bases.
