Pinus thunderbergii,
a dioecious evergreen tree, occurs on sunny, sandy beaches or rocks,
with many inhabiting coastal sand leading to the shore, and is
remarkably resistant to salty winds. Trunks reach about 25m in
height and 1.5m in diameter. Leaves are bilobar, 10-15 cm long, with
a hemispheric cross-section, 1.5-2 mm wide, and sharply pointed
tips. New leaves keep themselves on branches for three years and
drop afterward. Male flowers set themselves in many at the bases of
new branches, and female ones in two at the tips of the branches.
Bloom time: May. |
