Pogonia japonica
is a perennial, terrestrial orchid species found in a sunny, acidic
marshland. The stem stands 10-30cm in height, with a single 4-10cm
long oval leaf located about halfway down the stem, and a red-purple
flower facing sideways on the shoot apex. The flower: sepals and
petals measure 2-2.5cm long; thickly growing fleshy protuberances
inside the lip. This species flowers in June in this part of the
country. Bloom time: May-July. |
