Pogonia japonica is
a perennial, terrestrial orchid species found in a sunny acidic
marshland. The stem stands 10-30cm in height with a single 4-10cm
long oval leaf about halfway position and a red-purple flower facing
sideways on a shoot apex. The flower: both sepals and petals measure
2-2.5cm long; inside the lip thickly grow fleshy protuberances. This
species flowers in June in this part of the country.
