Pogonia japonica / Tokisou トキソウ

Pogonia japonica is a perennial, terrestrial orchid species found in a sunny acidic marshland. The stem stands 10-30cm in height with a single 4-10cm long oval leaf about halfway position and a red-purple flower facing sideways on a shoot apex. The flower: both sepals and petals measure 2-2.5cm long; inside the lip thickly grow fleshy protuberances. This species flowers in June in this part of the country. Shimane Red Data Book lists this as a CR+EN.
