Pollia japonica is
a 0.5-1m tall perennial found in forests in fields and mountains,
the stem and leaves feeling texture. The narrow-oblong leaves
measure 15-30cm in length, and the base embracing the stem. Flowers
appear on an upper stem in whorls at intervals, consisting of
bisexual and male flowers - bloom in August-September.
