Portulaca oleracea is a
fleshy annual herb in sunny locations, with stems tingeing
red-purple and crawling on the ground to spread. The 1-2.5cm long
leaves are spatulate, with bases cuneate. Yellow flowers measure
6-8mm in diameter; bright light works as an opener, and vice versa.
Petals are generally five and sepals two. Fruit ruptures sideways as
it ripens to disperse seeds. Bloom time: July-September. |
