Portulaca oleracea is a
fleshy annual herb that occurs in sunny locations, with stems
tingeing red-purple and crawling on the ground to spread. Leaves,
1-2.5cm long, are spatulate, with bases cuneate. Yellow flowers
measure 6-8mm in diameter; bright light work as an opener, and vice
versa. Petals are generally five and sepals two. Fruit rupture
sideways as it ripens to disperse seeds. Bloom time: July-September. |
