Rhododendron kaempferi
is a semi-evergreen shrub that grows 1-2.5m in
height and occurs in forests, on the edges, and in grasslands of
hilly or mountainous regions. Leaves are alternate;
sprouted-in-spring leaves fall in autumn, and sprouted-in-summer-to
autumn leaves pass the winter. The spring leaves are 3-5cm long,
1-3cm wide, oblong to obovate-oblong, tips pointed, and adpressed
brown hairs exist on either side of the leaves. Flowers, vermillion,
2 or 3 each, appear on branch tops 2 or 3. Corollas are cut into
five, and dark dots are on the upper lobes. Bloom time: April-June. |
