Rhododendron kaempferi is a
semi-evergreen shrub, 1-2.5m in height, found in forests, the edges,
and grasslands in hilly or mountainous regions. Leaves are
alternate; sprouted-in-spring leaves fall in autumn, and
sprouted-in-summer to -autumn leaves pass the winter. The spring
leaves are 3-5cm long, 1-3cm wide, oblong to obovate-oblong, tips
pointed and adpressed brown hairs exist on either side of the
leaves. Flowers, vermillion, 2 or 3 each, appear on branch tops 2 or
3 each. Corollas are cleft in five, and dark dots are on the upper
lobes. Bloom time: April-June. |
