Schizocodon
soldanelloides var. magnus is an evergreen perennial herb
found on beech forest floors in hilly districts. Rhizomes crawl on
the ground and put some leaves in bundles at rooted points. The
leaves, with long petioles, are circular, 8-12cm in length and
width, leathery, and prominently glassy on surfaces, with many sharp
serrations on margins. Flower stalks appear from among the leaves
and set 3-10 light red to white flowers on the tips; corollas are
funnel-shaped, cleft in five, and the lobe's ends finely cut in
afresh. Bloom time: May-July. |
