Scrophularia kakudensis, a
perennial herb of approximately 1m in height, inhabits sunny
grasslands or forest edges with enlarged fusiform roots and
four-ridged stems. Leaves are of opposite phyllotaxis, 6-10cm in
length, 3-5cm in width, in the shape of a long ovate or ovate,
somewhat firm, tips pointed, with sharply serrated margins. Flowers,
dark purple, 8-9mm in diameter, set themselves in conicals; pedicels
are fat with glandular hairs, and corollas poofy in the shape of a
pod. Calyxes are bell-shaped and cleft in five lobes. Bloom time:
June-September. |
