Solanum nigrum, an annual,
30-60cm in height, grows in fields or on roadsides. Leaves, 3-10cm
in length, are alternate, in the shape of a broad ovate, with
margins having wavy serrations. Stems bear branches with points
along their length, setting 4-8, 6-7mm-long, white flowers in a
racemose arrangement. Calyxes are cup-shaped and shallowly cut in;
corollas are deeply cleft into five and bend backward. Sap fruit,
0.7-1cm in diameter, is spherical, matures black, and is not glossy.
