Solanum nigrum,
an annual, 30-60cm in height, grows in fields or roadsides. Leaves,
3-10cm in length, are alternate, in the shape of a broad ovate, with
margins having wavy serrations. Stems emerge branches on points on
the way up to set 4-8 6-7mm-long, white flowers in a racemose way.
Calyxes are cup-shaped and shallowly cut in; corollas are deeply cut
in 5 and bend backward. Sap fruit, 0.7-1cm in diameter, is
spherical, matures in black, and is not glossy. Bloom time:
