Spiraea japonica is
a shrub of around one meter in height, growing in sunny gravel-rocky
areas in hilly districts. Leaves are of alternate phyllotaxis, 3-8cm
in length, 2-4cm in width, ovate or oblong-ovate, the bases circular
to wedge-shaped, the tips pointed, and the margins double-serrated
unevenly. Leaf-bottom sides are light green or glaucous, with hairs
or without - variable. Branch tops produce hemispherical compound
umbels, containing small flowers 3-6 mm in diameter. Petals are
irregular in color, ranging from light red to deep red, and
occasionally to white. Stamens, 25-30 in number, are longer than
petals, pistils are 3, and short, curled, pubescent hairs exist on
the inner surfaces of sepals. Bloom time: May-August. |
