Trillium apetalon f. album, a
rare form of Trillium apetalon, was first discovered on Mt. Toishi
in Hokkaido, inhabiting moist/wet forest floors in deciduous
broad-leaved forests in Shimane. The stems measure 20-40cm in
height, with leaves in a whorl of three rhomboid-circular shapes at
the apex, where single flowers rise. The flowers resemble their
original type. However, the sepals are light green, the anthers are
white, and the ovaries are purple-black or pale green; these three
characteristics distinguish it from the others. Bloom time:
April-May. |
