Utricularia gibba is
a perennial carnivorous plant seen in oligotrophic waters or
wetlands. It is rootless and natant but extends stems underground to
form mats. The stems are significantly slender, have a cross-section
of 0.2-1mm in diameter, and branch well to grow to 20cm or more.
Leaves, equipped with insectivorous sacs, are of alternate
phyllotaxis; each dichotomous unit reaches out 0.5-1.5cm in a thread
way. The stems are erect and make racemes, in which 6-10cm -tall
flower stalks set 1-2 0.6-1.2cm across yellow flowers. Bloom time:
August-October. |
