Utricularia gibba is a perennial
carnivorous plant seen in oligotrophic waters or wetlands. It is
rootless and natant, but its stems extend underground to form mats.
The stems are significantly slender, with a cross-sectional diameter
of 0.2-1mm, and branch well, growing to 20cm or more. Leaves,
equipped with insectivorous sacs, are of alternate phyllotaxis; each
dichotomous unit reaches out 0.5-1.5cm in a thread-like way. The
stems are erect and make racemes, in which 6-10 cm-tall flower
stalks set 1-2, 0.6-1.2cm across yellow flowers. Bloom time:
August-October. |
